What is the difference between relaxation and medical massage?

Generally, when you come to a massage therapist and ask for a relaxation massage, it is generally full body and may focus on few tight areas.  You are free of any medical condition.

Medical massage is when your doctor has prescribed massage therapy for a specific reason.  It might be because  you have pain in your body, or different bodily changes, that massage will help.  Insurance companies require that all massages be medically necessary.  The doctor will write a specific code and that will determine what type and where on your body you may receive massage.  Please make sure that when you see your doctor she gives the full condition.  For example, if your doctor only writes one code for your back, we are legally bound to only work on your back even if you do have neck, shoulder, wrist or knee pain, etc.  Please tell that to your doctor to allow full treatment.  We have a form below which you may print and take to your doctor to complete our version of a Massage Prescription and Treatment plan.
